Sri Thirupuraikkal Bhagavathy Temple, Puthur

The Puthur Shri Thirpuraikal Temple is an ancient and powerful Shakthi temple in Malabar. Bhadrakali is the main deity worshipped there, along with Lord Vishnu, Durga, and Lord Ganesha. This temple, over 100 years old and located 2 km from Palakkad town, holds significant historical value.

The people of Puthur built the present-day shrine around an old banyan tree, believing it to be the goddess’s previous abode, showing their enthusiasm and devotion. It’s believed that the goddess grants the wishes of true devotees, with many stories of her blessings circulating for generations.

Every year, the Puthur Vela festival begins in mid-March and ends in mid-April, with the main ritual being ‘Thol Pavakutha,’ a puppet show depicting the Ramayana. This festival attracts people from far and wide, seeking a glimpse of the goddess’s divinity and blessings.
