The Sri Visalakshi Sametha Sri Viswanatha Swamy temple is also called Kasi Viswanathaswamy Temple or locally known as Kundukovil. It’s a famous Hindu temple in Kalpathy village, Palakkad, Kerala, India.
The temple hosts the yearly Kalpathi Ratholsavam festival, a major event in Kerala. It sits beside the peaceful Kalpathy river (Nila Nadhi) and honours Lord Siva and Visalakshi (another name for Parvati). Built around the early fifteenth century, it’s often linked to Varanasi’s Kashi Viswanatha temple, hence the names “kasiyil pakuthi kalpathy” and “Dakshina Kashi” for this temple. The temple is surrounded by four traditional Tamil Brahmin villages: New Kalpathy, Old Kalpathy, Chathapuram, and Govindarajapuram.
